About Us

At Ray Rose, we have been manufacturing high quality dance shoes for over 40 years.

Founded in 1976 by Raymond Rose, the company initially manufactured in London, specialising in jazz and fashion shoes. However, in the 1980s, with the guidance and expertise of our Production Director, Gregg Spence, the company saw an opportunity to switch focus and develop products for the vibrant, growing Ballroom and Latin American Dance market. Since then, we have continued to evolve and enhance our products to meet the changing needs of the dance community.

Having invested in Ray Rose Ltd. in 2004, and ultimately purchasing it in 2007, current owner Benjamin Finbow, has overseen the largest growth in the company’s history, both in terms of scope and quality. In 2005, as a result of a dwindling shoe manufacturing sector in the UK, and in order to improve access to the highest quality materials and components, as well as benefit from some of the most talented shoemakers in the world, production was moved to our family owned partner factory in Europe, where all of our shoes are manufactured to this day.

Under new ownership and with a new manufacturing base, the company recognised that Ballroom and Latin dancing had evolved into a more energetic artform, and so began to incorporate elements of sportswear, to produce stylish and elegant dance shoes suitable for athletes. Our goal became to offer products which not only look beautiful on the dancefloor, but provide unmatched comfort and the best support and protection for the wearer, preventing both short term and long term damage to the feet.

As a result, our products have become the first and only choice of many dancers around the world, with our products being worn by World Champions in Ballroom, Latin American and Salsa, as well as appearing on prestigious TV shows such as Strictly Come Dancing in the UK, and Dancing With The Stars in both the US and Australia.

Now operating from our office/warehouse in West Thurrock, just a stone’s throw away from London, our European production is managed remotely, still guided by Mr. Spence, with his over 50 years of experience in shoe making, and our products are distributed all over the world by our small, but devoted team.

In recent years, we have diversified to apply our expertise to other areas of the dance world, such as producing boots for Line Dancing. More recently we have begun developing and manufacturing shoes specifically for theatrical use, and our shoes have been worn on stage on Broadway, in London’s West End and in Las Vegas, amongst many others.

Working closely with our wonderful, sponsored dancers, theatrical companies, and led by the dance community as a whole, our aim is to ensure that our products always meet the needs of dancers.
